Equalizer APO adds an audio processing utility to Windows audio outputs, and the PEACE GUI is a configuration utility for Equalizer APO that has, among other things, a stereo widening DSP effect. If you want stereo widening, I would suggest something like Equalizer APO with the PEACE GUI. But Windows Sonic doesn't do much either unless the app supports spatial audio. I have never had a good experience with virtual surround, either through software or through hardware support on my Sound Blaster G6. ![]() A bit closer to binaural audio than Virtual Surround, but my experience with Atmos is that it really needs application support for it to do much. Windows Sonic then uses that data to create a convincing sense of direction in stereo output. Rather than just having 7 channels in 7 directions, it allows applications to specify a sound source and where that sound source is relative to the user's head in 3D space, so a sound could be placed above or below the user rather than simply around them. ![]() Windows Sonic is more like Dolby Atmos where it's a 3D object-based sound positioning system. So IIRC it tells applications that the system has a 7.1 surround sound system, then converts the 7.1 output to stereo output. ![]() Virtual Surround down-mixes 7.1 content to stereo.
